Career Profile

Alphonso Grennell: Defensive and Security Driving Instructor

Mr. Alphonso Grennell has been the managing director of Grennell’s Driver Safety Training & Services (Grennell’s Driving School) since June 1, 1999.

He holds certification in Forklift Instruction from the NSC (2012), Security Driving Instruction from BSR (2010), West Virginia, USA (2005) and Defensive Driving (Trainer of Trainers) from Safety Systems & Services Ltd, Trinidad and Tobago (2004) and Defensive Driving Instructor from Safety Systems & Services Ltd, Trinidad and Tobago (1998). He holds a certificate in Public Speaking and Presentation Skills for Managers from Management Institute for National Development (2003). He has a Diploma in Automotive Service Management from Jamaica-German Automotive School (1997).

Mr. Alphonso Grennell has prepared and conducted defensive driving course for several companies, for example: JAMALCO Ltd, IGL Ltd, Ministry of Health, PETROJAM, Jamaica Public Service Co. Ltd, Urban Development Corporation, National Water Commission, Aluminum Partners of Jamaica (ALPART), Carreras Groups, University of the West Indies and many others. He conducted driver assessment for many organizations, such as: National Safety Ltd, National Commercial Bank, Ex-O-Pest, Sanitary Removal, Appliance Traders Ltd, and Caribbean Brakes Products Ltd.

Mr. Grennell has appeared on television and radio stations as a Defensive Driving expert to give vital and relevant information on how defensive driving can help to prevent traffic crashes that result in damages, injuries and even fatalities. He has written and has submitted road and traffic safety articles to The Gleaner and the Jamaica Gasoline Retailer Association Magazine.

Previous positions held by Mr. Grennell include those of Executive Training Officer at Cable & Wireless Jamaica; and Motor Vehicle Repair Supervisor, Cable & Wireless Jamaica.

In consideration of acceptance of my application to participate in the Grennells Road Safety 5K, I waive and release all claims for myself, my heirs and assigns against the Grennell’s Road Safety 5k Organizers and all sponsors, all officers, directors, and members of said organizations, and their respective employees, agents, volunteers and any other individuals who are in any way associated with this event, for any damages, illness, death or injury of any kind whatsoever which may result from my participation in the Grennells Road Safety 5K.

This waiver and release extends to all claims of every kind whatsoever, foreseen and unforeseen, known and unknown, to fullest extent permitted by law.

I know that walking, running and road racing are potentially hazardous activities. By entering this event I am taking responsibility for medical clearance and for being physically fit and properly trained to participate in this event. I understand that there is a risk of injury involved in any activity of this kind.  By entering this event, I agree to accept these risks and take full responsibility for my own well-being. I agree that event officials are authorized to obtain emergency treatment for me in the event I am incapacitated. 

I give permission for the uncompensated use of my name and picture in any account, publication, broadcast, or telecast of or regarding this event for any legitimate purpose.  I also acknowledge that the official race director reserves the right to postpone or cancel the race, or to change the day and/or time, without refund of entry fees.

I certify that I have read the foregoing and accept its terms.  If the participant is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver and agree to its terms. ­­­­­­­­­­
